We, the jury, find the defendant...

Greetings ~

Was Lizzie Borden guilty or innocent? That question has been argued for well over one hundred years. The young, pretty girl from Fall River was accused of hacking to death her father and step-mother on August 4, 1892. At the time, thoughts were, how could a young lady do such a horribly deed? It had to be a man who committed these murders. But the evidence mostly pointed to Lizzie. And she sure wasn't her own best friend through the trial, making statements that raised many an eyebrow.
Like most unsolved crimes from that many years ago, crimes like Jack the Ripper and others, the answer to WHO actually killed the Bordens will, no doubt, never be answered. But it has made for a great topic of discussion for many conversations.
As we know today, women CAN commit bloody and gory crimes. Not as many as men but it surely is possible. But in 1892, it was thought that the female sex was much more innocent and refined. Young women could never use an axe on someone's face and head. Poison was more a lady's murder weapon. But let's face it, if all you have is an axe and you really want these people dead, and, your fresh out of poison, what the heck? Go for it! And it appears that's just what Lizzie Borden did. Personally, I believe she was guilty. But as I stated before, we will probably never actually know what happened.
And, by the way, was Lizzie Borden related in any way to the Borden Milk Company? Hummm!

Lizzie's bloody axe.
